Building Services (BLD 60903)
Introduction:
Building Services module introduces students to services that are commonly provided in a building, primarily cold and hot water supply, sewerage disposal and treatment, drainage and storm water management, electrical supply, fire protection systems, mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning systems and mechanical transportation systems. Students are also made familiar with the basic requirements in planning, coordination and installation of these services related to the local Acts and By-Laws of Malaysia.

Project 1: Application of Basic Building Service
This individual assignment works on the basic application of building services of four different major types available which include electrical supply, cold water and hot water supply, sewage and sanitary, and stormwater and drainage systems. From a given building plan, we were assigned to design these systems by complying with Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 and other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines, and present them in two sheets of A2 presentation boards.
Project 2: Building Services in Public Buildings
This group-of-five assignment was to perform a thorough study and analysis on building services systems found in multi-storey buildings. We were introduced to four systems that are used on bigger volume of spaces and variety of users which include mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning, fire protection and mechanical transportation systems.
This project was integrated with the final project for Architecture Design Studio 4. We developed a design from the final design studio project and incorporated the systems mentioned above to the building. I was assigned to conduct an analysis on the mechanical transportation system and finally, we documented all our findings into a comprehensive and informative report.
