Architectural Design Studio 2 (ARC60205)

A continuation from Achitectural Design Studio 1, the key emphasis of the Architectural Design Studio 2 is "User and Context", which investigates the relationship between user and natural environment. We undertook a series of studio-based exercises, beginning from prototype studies to a small free standing building.

Contents:

1. Project 1: Famous People, Familiar Faces

2. Project 2A: Introduction to Site Analysis and Observation Deck at Cape Rachado

3. Project 2B: Retreat Jouse at Cape Rachado, Pork Dickson.

Project 1 : Famous People, Familiar Faces

In a group of 5, we were to 'learn from precedents', which related to the History of Modern Architecture by interpretation and exploration of solids, planes, lines and frames in architectural design. This project emphasis on the elements of architecture and architectonis that generate architectural form and space, produced by drawing and making. My groupmates: Darshiini Vig, Natalie Ki, Chow Hong Da and Max had chosen Le Corbusier's Villa Stein de Monzie as our studies. We produced a complete set of architectural drawings with scale of 1:100 and a set of 10 analysis diagrams with 10 diagrammatic models in 8cm x 8cm x 8cm.

Project 2A : Introduction to Site Analysis and Observation Deck at Cape Rachado

Before doing  project 2A, we were splitted in to two big groups to do our site analysis in Cape Rachado, Port Dickson. I was in views and vistas group. I learnt to analyse the positive views and negative views there. After finishing site visit analysis, we are required to design an observation deck for a particular user withink unique and distinctive natural landscapes. In a group of 2, my groupmates, Evelyn Lai and I were being grouped to group B which the site is by the beach.

Project 2B : Retreat House at Cape Rachado, Port Dickson

This project is in individual basis. In my own, I have to further develop my skills that used in Project 2A to design a retreat house at Cape Rachado. This project emphasis on interpretation and synthesis of the user, site and function in architectural design. This retreat house must function as habitable architectural spaces to enable the activity associated with living, dining, showering, cooking, storage and such within the built up space of 150m^2. The relationship betwwen my design and the context is significant in making the retreat unique to iys landscape and activity. My user is retired botanist and my retreat house is located near the beach.
